Sometimes we need an intricate object in our plan but don't want to risk slowing down our computer with high poly symbols.
Transparent images can possibly do the trick.
You can use transparencies as a material by spray painting it on a thin primitive solid or for creating images such as people in your scene or by creating a 3DS symbol by using the "face" tool.
I have created 3DS symbols out of the "face" tool for such things as fences. All you will need to do is drop it into your plan as you would any other 3DS symbol. If you choose not to use the 3DS symbol, you can also click on the image and "save as". It will automatically save the file as a .png and you can use it to spray on a thin surface.
Transparent materials will, of course, not give you a 3D effect but it can give a fairly nice look to a Raytrace or render.
For 3DS transparancies, you have a choice of either downloading a 3DS symbol using it as a texture by clicking on the image and "save as"
